Eskom Reports Notable Improvements in Power Generation Fleet

Six Coal-Fired Power Stations Achieve 70% EAF for the First Time Since May 2022

Eskom, South Africa’s power generation company, has announced a notable improvement in the performance of its power generation fleet. Six of its coal-fired power stations achieved an energy availability factor (EAF) of 70%, a milestone that had not been achieved since May 2022. The power stations that achieved this milestone include Camden, Duvha, Matla, Lethabo, Matimba, and Medupi.

According to Eskom’s Acting Group Chief Executive, Calib Cassim, this achievement is still early progress but shows a positive trajectory from the actions taken to recover Eskom’s generation plants. Eskom’s target is to achieve a 70% EAF by the 2025 financial year.

Eskom Board Chairperson, Mpho Makwana, commended the teams at the power stations for their great work and applauded all Eskom employees for their continued hard work and dedication. Makwana added that the improvement in performance gives assurance that if Eskom continues to apply an all-hands-on-deck approach, it will continue to improve energy availability.

Eskom continues to pursue generation recovery programs to recover operations and achieve sustained improvements in generation performance. For further information, contact the Eskom Media Desk at +27 11 800 3433/5944/6050 or via email at mediadesk@eskom.co.za.
