Chelsea Football Club has held face-to-face talks with former Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann for the first time, as part of their search for a new permanent manager [2]. The 35-year-old German recently met with Chelsea officials to discuss the managerial vacancy at Stamford Bridge [3]. This development comes after initial talks were held with Nagelsmann, though not in person [18].
Nagelsmann, who was sacked by Bayern Munich and replaced by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel [16], is keen to coach in the Premier League and is on the radar of both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur [13]. Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is set to make the final decision on whether Nagelsmann will become the club’s new head coach, despite concerns over his age [10].
In addition to Nagelsmann, Chelsea is looking to interview Mauricio Pochettino, Rúben Amorim, Oliver Glasner, and Luis Enrique for the managerial position, but the club is prepared to wait until the summer to make a decision [8]. Nagelsmann, however, is the frontrunner for the position [6].
The German coach is highly admired by Chelsea’s ownership group, who believe that he possesses the attributes that match the club’s long-term project at Stamford Bridge [17]. Chelsea’s pursuit of Nagelsmann has reportedly cleared a significant hurdle, bringing the club one step closer to appointing him as their new manager [9].
